Landfill Wash

PROJECT PAGE LANDFILL WASH 1.jpg

The brief was to deliver a robust system, and Speedywash certainly did that! This project encompassed the design, install and commissioning of an automatic wash system at one of Australia’s largest landfill sites. Significant environmental and site conditions were cited as areas for concern for this client, where during rainy weather or when the site is drying out but still wet and muddy, outgoing trucks carry significant volumes of mud and other residual materials from the site and on to neighbouring public roads.

On a typical weekday the site can receive up to 600 trucks over a 17 hour period (Midnight to 5:00pm). The site also has an operating licence able to increase to a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Customers vehicles ranged in size from those collecting Municipal Solid Waste (‘MSW’) and Commercial & Industrial (‘C&I’) collections, the majority of which are rigid trucks with between 3 and 5 axles (including steering), plus tip trucks with trailers, Semi-tippers, Semi-trailers from other waste transfer stations and in future B and A-Doubles combinations will also be received at this site. There will also a lesser number of light vehicles/utes etc. that also use the site on a daily basis that will require wheel-washing.

From design to commissioning, Speedywash oversaw every phase of this project, including coordination, and project management, system design including all civil works which required the removal and reinstatement of m3 of bad ground and all associated concrete works plus procurement and installation of all parts and components, service connections, switchboards, valves and vehicle and system management systems and all other components including commissioning prior to handover to the client. The design and construction of the automatic truck wash plant and equipment shall be compliant (as a minimum) with the relevant Australian Standards, industry guidelines and other relevant documents.

Successful project delivery, on time and budget, saw a wash installed that catered for the following:

  • Representative Heavy Vehicle Fleet- Rigid trucks (3-5 axle) Tippers/and combination sets.

  • Representative Light Vehicle Fleets- Toyota Hilux or similar.

  • Wash slab axle load 12Tonne in accordance with AUSTROADS Specifications.

  • 16 hour working operation

  • 325 Average vehicle movements per shift and 500 vehicles peak vehicle movements per shift

  • Effective wash management of wheels/chassis/arch for the removal of site material.

  • Full automation sequence for washing

  • 3 phase 415 V power supply available

  • Raw Water not available on site / treatment required for peak data
